A rug brings together our collective need for utility and the human desire for beauty, our wish for time-honored technique as well as the space for serendipity.

We opened Madison Lily Rugs to present our own view of what is beautiful, and to offer our clients greater choice for how they live today—in aesthetic, utility, scale—without compromising a single thread of the artisanal integrity or luxurious comfort of a traditionally hand-knotted rug.

Selecting or creating such an artifact places you within a practice born centuries ago, in the meditative hands of the weaver. As an artist-led endeavor, we find little more humbling or thrilling than witnessing the mastery of our weavers as they deftly bring to life our designs.

Once a design is complete, we work personally with artisans in India and Nepal to oversee every intricacy of production—hand-selecting silk and wool, nuancing variations in dye, directing the dialogue of texture that will ripple across your rug—to ensure the months of care devoted to your piece faithfully reflect an heirloom-quality product as well as the integrity of our composition.

A timeless rug is livable art—a symphony of silk and wool and color that unifies, protects, and defines our space.

Edgar Podzemny, Principal

One of the joys of having full creative control of our product is that we can constantly infuse our inventory with new ideas, which we introduce throughout each season as inspiration strikes (Edgar’s studio overlooks the showroom). You may have noticed we seek collaboration with other artists we admire, like design luminaries Benjamin Johnston and Marie Flanigan, whose signature collections with Madison Lily further enable us to curate a fresh point of view.

It is important to us that you’re greeted by a spectrum of possibility (and a friendly hello) when you enter our space, and we are always happy to guide you through the experience to help focus your efforts.

A rug is the intimacy of home and the company of loved ones, a bridge to our past and a stage for tomorrow.

We are woven together, each of us, in this way.
